(This is a homebrew race for my world of Corelad)
TOSKR
Sometimes simply referred to as "squirrelfolk," the toskr (pronounced toss-ker or tose-ker depending on who you ask) are humanoids with squirrel-like features, including furry eras and a large tail. Their backs, legs, and tails are covered by a distinct fur, but looking at any other part of their body it would be understandable to confuse them with humans. The toskr hail from the far north, arriving in Corelad on boats made from their home forest.
AGILE AND CUNNING
Toskr evolved quick reflexes and a sharp wit to evade the predators of the north. They still retain these features, though the toskr of Corelad use these traits for adventuring rather than survival. Toskr are quick on their feet and very little can slow them down.
Toskr are fond of games that require outthinking and outmaneuvering their opponents, as it allows them to exercise their wit. Toskr make expert strategists, and their survival instincts often lead them to victory with the least amount of casualties. However, their survival instincts also often lead them to flee when facing only small chances of failure.
FOND OF HEIGHTS
Toskr can climb practically any surface that they can grip, and are often found on the top of large structures. They enjoy climbing for the recreation and because it eases an evolutionary need that many of them share. With clawed fingers and a tail for balance, there's almost nothing that a skilled toskr can't climb.
POWERFUL TAIL
The most notable physical trait of a toskr is their massive tail. In some toskr, it is almost as long as they are tall, though it varies in length from toskr to toskr. Besides looking beautiful, the tail is useful for balance and as a weapon. With their tail serving as a counter-balance, toskr almost never fall over. The sheer size of the tail makes it an ideal weapon when they are unable to find something more suited for battle.
TOSKR NAMES
Toskr names sound exotic to the natives of Corelad and are usually derived from their ancestral language. Toskr do not possess family names, instead taking one or two names to distinguish themselves as individuals.
Male Names: Bai Tad, Da Jian, Lei, Ping Zhu, Shan Kun, Tu, Wen Qo
Female Names: Ai Wen, Fen, Lan Ji, Liling, Mei Nuan, Quin
