Episode 26 was all about piracy. Who doesn't love those grog-drinking, mustached swashbucklers? But if you were forced into piracy, who would you rather plunder under? The Norse Pirates who called themselves Vikings in the 800's? Or the Average-everyday Pirates of the Caribbean from the 1600's?
Edit: Sorry Carribean Pirate lovers. Vikings can be average-everyday Vikings of the Norse Sea. We are all "Pirates" here.

Neither, make me the Ironborn. Hopefully you just don't get captured and tortured and have your man parts mailed back to your father...

I should have put "other", but the only other plunderer I could think of were the Chinese. Ironborn. Figures, I have never seen the show, but that sounds brutal. On an airplane ride I watched this really corny Korean movie called the Pirates. It was the first (and only) Asian film I have ever watched. The plot concerned a group of pirates and bandits who team together to try to catch a whale (that has a flag sticking out of its back) and gut it to obtain the emperor's royal seal (that the whale convieniently ate). I would never recommend watching it, but the storyline contains a lot of cool ideas. I will always cheer for Vikings. They have a stronger companionship than Pirates do. And who doesn't love their beards?

Man, now I'm in the mood for '13th Warrior'!
'Lo, there do I see my father. 'Lo, there do I see my mother, and my sisters, and my brothers. 'Lo, there do I see the line of my people... Back to the beginning. 'Lo, they do call to me. They bid me take my place among them. In the halls of Valhalla... Where the brave may live forever.

The 13th Warrior is one of the best D&D movies out there. The epitome of a band of adventurers on a quest. Also, that is the reason I love Blade 2 so much. Also, Almarianknight I assume you in camp Viking like I am given that you referred to the other choice as "Average-everyday Pirates of the Caribbean" in your question, haha. If that is true and you aren't watching Vikings from the "History" channel then you totally should be!

Did I make it that obvious? Whoops. I want to read the Eaters of the Dead now! That looks really cool. And I want to watch Vikings so bad, that show looks awesome. (Though the second season looks strange. Why is there a girl Viking? That doesn't even make sense. Girls are not Vikings...)

We need a more critical analysis here, so let's use the WWW metric (which I just made up) -- Wine, Warriors, and Weather
Wine: We're talking Mead vs. Rum here. I've only tried mead a couple times, and didn't especially like it. Rum comes in more varied flavors, and mixes well. Verdict: PIRATES
Warriors: Viking warriors would kick pirate ass, even if the pirates had gunpowder weapons. No contest. Verdict: VIKINGS
Weather: F#$% the cold. Verdict: PIRATES
The pirates win this contest, by my reckoning.

Weather: F#$% the cold. Verdict: PIRATES Wouldn't the weather prove Vikings are more hardcore then pirates? Pirates would be sniveling in blankets while Vikings would be practically repeating your statement.

True Almarianknight, but it is which you would choose to be with. I can see the choice of Pirate on that one, but given my beard and some ample furs I think I could handle it, haha. I will admit to the Rum over Mead situation, and I think the weather is some what of a wash. The deciding factor is that the Vikings would likely kick some serious Pirate ass!

That's true. Just because Vikings can handle the cold doesn't mean I can. And on that note I might have wanted to join pirates if it weren't for grog. I can not imagine grog tasting good at all. I think everyone would agree that Caribbean has the nicer weather. Also, Vikings seem a little more unfriendly (though I love their comradre). Though we are talking apples and Fuji apples here, Pirates weren't the greatest either. m.youtube.com/watch?v=lst7Jgtqw10

I think the weather is some what of a wash. Having actually worked as a deckhand on an all wood traditional sailing vessel (a "tall ship", easily mistaken for a "pirate ship") and sailed in both Caribbean waters and in the waters of the northern great lakes and Nova Scotia, I must say that this is absolutely not correct. Sailors live and die by the weather. Vikings get major bad@$$ points as sailors based solely on living in a norther climate. (sailing up by Nova Scotia is no picnic!) I know the Caribbean gets hurricanes and such, but the daily grind of sailing in northern waters is inexpressibly harsh. Imagine chipping ice off lines and sheets in order to raise and lower sails. That is just one tiny, miserable reality among many. For the record, I cast my vote for pirates, 'cause I like their style (And because I'd rather sail in warm waters any day. Like I said: live or die)

Yeah, I wasn't thinking about the day to day stuff. Just the longer voyages for pillage and plunder paloozas, but you bring up a ridiculously good point. Now I'm even more on the side of the Vikings, haha!
