Greeting Dungeon Master's with a very wonderful Monk themed episode released today the great grand master joatmoniac and I have come up with a fun little challenge for this week. It would have been easy to just create a monastic order to join the other guilds and groups created for Dayeimbe, so instead we decided to have a good old fashion kung fu tournament a la Karate Kid, Enter the Dragon, and so many more. So here is the format. Each of you will be building an NPC champion who is your entry into the great tournament. He or she will come from a monastic order of your own design and the goal is to in the end have a story, campaign, or plot hook ready to go that will allow us as DMs to run a kung fu brawl for our monk players. Here is the weight you all must lift. Champion Name: Monastic Order Your Champion represents: Symbol: Motto: Fighting Style: Subclass: Current ranking, titles or accolades held by your champion: Once you have submitted all these we will create a bracket that can be used. If you want to go the extra mile roll up some stats for a level 10 monk and share them as well. Will add more things to create if these weights seem to easy to lift.

Champion Name: Jericho
Monastic Order Your Champion represents: Order of the New Moon (Shadow School)
Symbol: Black Circle on a Field of Dark Blue
Motto: "The New Moon also calls the tides, and the tides answer."
Fighting Style: School of the New Moon: Stealth, evasion, control
Subclass: None
Current ranking, titles or accolades held by your champion: None, the Order of the New Moon does not offer its own accolades or titles. This is Jericho's first tournament outside his school.
Race: Drow Class: Monk 10, Way of Shadow Background: Hermit Life of Seclusion: Enforced living by dictates of religion Personality traits: Rarely speaks; oblivious to etiquette Ideal: Self-Knowledge Bond: Nothing is more important than the other members of my order. Flaw: I harbor dark bloodthirsty thoughts that my isolation and meditation failed to quell Alignment: LN Stats: STR 10 DEX 18 CON 14 INT 12 WIS 16 CHA 9 (Standard Array) Proficiencies: Skills: Medicine, Religion, Stealth, Perception, Acrobatics Weapons: Monk Weapons, Rapiers, Hand Crossbows Armor: None Tools: Herbalism Kit, Tinker's Tools Languages: Common, Elvish, Undercommon
Prefered weapon: Dual-wield Karambits (dagger stats, allows unarmed strike while holding)
Jericho was captured as an infant when the Order of the New Moon raided a drow city and wiped out all the adults of his family. The order kept the young dark elf in secret for the next 17 years, limiting his access to any but his teachers and holding the harshest possible measure of discipline and training. He is a powerful assassin, but in tournament conditions, he is trained to utilize stealth and his darkness spells to the maximum effectiveness, sticking to the edges of his concealment to play on the natural assumption of other fighters that he would stay near the middle of his umbral globe. He is merciless, pitiless, and powerful, but is not cruel. When victory necessitates leaving his opponent alive, he does so, but he is not above killing or maiming an enemy so long as doing so will not negatively affect him personally. The only hobby he has been permitted apart from his training is tinkering, typically to maintain small pieces of gnomish clockwork.

Champion Name: Douglass von Clarke. Would prefer Doug, but is always called Douglass or von Clarke. From the house Du'Clarke, but due to a falling out with his family over his religious ideals, he distanced himself by dropping the Du (the Nobility Particle of their region) in favor of von, which denotes nobility in Lusina Tirion. Monastic Order Your Champion represents: A secretive sect called the Ardaxes Proelium. While they hold to the tenants of the god of science, Ardaxes, they believe his knowledge and mastery over elements should be used to fight their enemies and detractors. They value knowledge only in so far as it benefits on the battlefield. Symbol: A double ended throwing club (a variant of an Aklys), designed to resemble an alembic. The monk's chosen weapon. Their colors are black on white. Two black circles with a line between them, on a white background, a simplification of their symbol for use on flags, tabbards etc. Motto: ora quia proeliis "Pray for Battles" Fighting Style: While most monks of the Ardaxes Proelium fight solely with the Aklys, Douglass von Clarke also utilizes the jitte, a hangover from his non-violent years. He finds it helps to disarm an attacker with the jitte, then while withdrawing a few paces brings the Aklys to bear on his fumbling enemy. Utilizing Hapkaido in conjunction with the Arnis school of fighting, which weaves long & close range weapon use seamlessly with hand to hand combat (which is deemed inevitable if the battle continues long enough), the Ardaxes Proelium are adept fighters. Subclass: none Current ranking, titles or accolades held by your champion: von Clarke is the current Circuitor (monk in charge of discipline) of his abbey, but assists the Guest-master when he can as he enjoys meeting new and interesting people, noting the differences in care each requires. He holds no titles or accolades save his name (which in itself denotes nobility and is from a noble family)

Champion Name: Skela, Fist of Winter
Monastic Order Your Champion represents: The White Sisters of the Temple of the Sublime North, a secluded monastery hidden near the arctic shores of Dayeimbe. An all-female sect, the ascetic temple does not allow men within its pure halls.
Symbol: A single snowflake.
Motto: Still your heart, and the truth shines.
Fighting Style: The Dance of Northern Winds captures the elegance of a descending snowflake and the unrelenting force of a frigid gale. Veiled in flowing robes of pure white, the White Sisters move with fluid grace and deadly skill, even while doing mundane tasks.
Subclass: Way of the Four Elements
Current ranking, titles or accolades held by your champion: Speaker
Race: Wood Elf Class: Monk 10, Way of Four Elements Background: Acolyte Alignment: LG Stats: Str 8, Dex 18, Con 12, Int 10 Wis 18, Char 11 Weapon Proficiencies: Monk weapons, long sword, long bow, short bow. Preferred Weapon: Spear Character Description: Under normal circumstances, nuns of her order are strictly forbidden to verbally communicate with outsiders and veil themselves while traveling outside temple grounds. The Great Tournament is no ordinary circumstance, and the White Sisters needed to make their presence in Dayeimbe known. Thus, Skela was chosen to be the Speaker, and tasked with leading a handful of sisters to demonstrate the power of an enlightened mind, freed from the hindrances of emotions. A creature of surreal beauty, Skela is the embodiment of her order's ideals and virtues. Even her regalia flutters with life-like grace as the winds bend to her will.

Champion Name: Sadoc
Monastic Order Your Champion represents: The Way of the Shattered Fist
Symbol: A downward facing red fist
Motto: "A broken bone heals stronger, so it is with people"
Fighting Style: Those who follow the Way of the Shattered Fist will never fully dodge an attack, but simply redirect it so the "lesson" is less severe. They will never kill anyone (humanoid) if there is any other options, this does not stop them from leaving an opponent a completely broken body. They always attack full force and never pull their blows even in training. They believe it is completely dishonorable to wield any kind of weapon against any living thing.
Subclass: Way of the Open Hand (I think, I am not super knowledgeable about 5e... ok so I read the SRD and that is it... I really just play Pathfinder/3.5 mostly)
Current ranking, titles or accolades held by your champion: Sadoc holds the title of Stone Breaker, although no further explanation of this title is given to any outside of the order.
Physical Description: Clothed in simple pair of brown breeches, Sadoc is a large, dark skinned human. He is covered head to toe in seemingly innumerable amount of scars. The only visible hair on his body is his tightly braided black beard.

Geralsh (GEAR- A - LASH) was but a lad when he found himself abandoned in the wild -his tribe decimated by an infernal attack and scattered to the winds. Forced to fend for himself he slowly learned how under prepared he was, even with the training that all young Dragonborn receive from the time they can stand. He was injured, hungry and almost feral when one of the Pilgrims found him and brought him back to the monastery.
They nursed the boy back to health and he took to mimicking the monks in their training whilst he recovered and they found he had a natural talent for there way of fighting -almost without realising he integrated himself with the clan and they accepted him as there own. 8 Years came quickly as he slowly began to master there ways and he was blindfolded and taken to where he had been found originally with only what he could carry in his hands, told to wait an hour in contemplation. And so he was left to survive in the wilds -allowed to do as he wished after a year's passing or if some great threat became apparent -such is the way of the order, many do not return ether perishing or roaming the world in service to restore the balance and some return older, wiser and ready to train the next line.

Champion Name: Arori Sanchu (she's a half-orc) Monastic Order Your Champion represents: Symbol: Motto: Fighting Style: Subclass: Current ranking, titles or accolades held by your champion: Once you have submitted all these we will create a bracket that can be used. If you want to go the extra mile roll up some stats for a level 10 monk and share them as well. Will add more things to create if these weights seem to easy to lift. Champion Name: Arori Sanchu (she's a half-orc) Monastic Order Your Champion represents: Order of the Tempted Symbol: An orange 'X' with the top left arm replaced with a large dot. So, like a mix between an 'X' and a '%' Motto: The greatest power is control of oneself Fighting Style: Something like Wing Chun. Focusing on reacting, close strikes and grappling. It's a "soft" style, absorbing blows rather than resisting them. Subclass: Way of the Open Hand Current ranking, titles or accolades held by your champion: Apprentice. Each of the 5 Grand Masters of the order takes one apprentice. That apprentice trains then for 10 years before they move on to whatever life calls them to next. Most often, they start their own monasteries. When one of the Grand Masters dies, the four remaining convene to decide who among the apprentice graduates (called simply Masters) should become the fifth. This is often based primarily on what those Masters have accomplished after graduating. There is a huge ceremony, and the new Grand Master takes a tour of all the Order of the Tempted monasteries, meeting all the monks, and often sparring challengers for days on end. After the tour, the new Grand Master gives one representative from each monastery the opportunity to apply for apprenticeship.

Champion Name: Siyan Guan (Elven female)
Monastic Order Your Champion represents:
Order of the Unbound Soul. A group of monks who believe that the passion of mortal emotion and the ability for beings to care for one another are our greatest assets. They teach methods that force ki to bend to your soul through sheer willpower. Rather than the traditional zen-like traditions of most monastic orders, the Unbound Soul hosts an assortment of monks that express their emotions in the purest form. That said, they also teach that there is a balance in your emotions. And for every powerful outburst of anger or sadness, there must be an equally potent outburst of joy and compassion.
Because of this the monks of the order host an assortment of incredibly fierce warriors as well as a troupe of caring and loving doctors/healers. Siyan definitely falls into the former category.
Symbol:
A orange silhouette of a screaming bald face on a sorta cream colored background.
Motto:
"The power of the soul binds us all."
Fighting Style:
Siyan is a master of the Drunken Boxing style. Using the force of her opponent against them. Additionally, as the fight continues, Siyan's emotions will build and unleash itself through pure light energy.
Subclass:
Way of the Sun Soul (Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide...basically pew pew laser beam monk.)
Current ranking, titles or accolades held by your champion: Master of the Tiger's Roar Drinking Champion of the Duskmine Dwarves (she's definitely an elf and made quite a few dwarves really really mad) Dance Master of the Guildalish Gnomes
