So I decided to have some fun with my lvl3 party by sending them up against something unexpected. Now, a regular haunt would wipe the floor with them, and I wanted something nice and annoying.
Enter the Kobold Ghost with it's pitiful stat block and several irritating abilities:
Kobold Ghost AC: 10 Hp: 16 Spd: 40' . STR CON DEX INT WIS CHA -2 -1 0 -1 -2 0 . Incorporeal: Creature takes 1/2 damage from all nonmagical attacks
Withering Touch: On a successful attack, target takes 2d4 necrotic damage.
Horrifying Visage: All creatures within 60' that can see and hear the kobold ghost must make a WIS save. DC13 to give it a bit of a challenge. Failure means they are frightened for a minute (and ashamed for the rest of their lives), but if they fail by five or more (8 and below) then they age 1d4x2 years.
Possession: (Always charged) As long as the Kobold Ghost is within 5' of an opponent it can attempt a possession on its turn. The target has to make a DC 13 CHA save. On a fail, the ghost posses one of their arms. Have the player roll a die or simply pick Even or Odd. If the die is Odd, their Left arm is affected; Right arm on an Even roll. Possession lasts until the ghost is forced from the body via magic, holy water, or the character drops to 0hp. While possessed, the arm will do whatever it can to annoy, berate, or even endanger its host; providing dissadvantage on all Attacks, Skill Checks, as well as STR and DEX saving throws.

As a DM who uses kobolds as a main enemy for my player. This is awesome will certainly be stealing it!!!! Go right ahead! Have a blast when they don't see it coming. Kid you not, the first person it tried to possess was my wife's rogue who botched the save! We ended up with that scene from Red Dwarf where Rimmer's arm was taken over by Mr. Wesley. Then the only character to flat out fail the Horrifying Visage was the gangly, teenage npc that's been following the party around. Kid went from 19 and surly to 23 and cynical right fast!

With the amount of kobolds adventurers burn through, at least a couple of them has to have to willpower to remain in the mortal coil to haunt them........kobold attack with one of the raising after death. TOTALLY DOING IT!!!!
